"Don't Believe the News Media"

" Our mind's are made up, don't  confuse things with  facts. "

" The Party told you to reject all evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

From the book, 1984, by George Orwell

I live in a remote area where I can only get  one AM radio station, a station that runs right-wing programming all day long.

Some of what I hear dips well into the realm of certifiable paranoid delusion.

This would be obvious to anyone that takes the time to do an unbiased fact-check on what they hear.

But that's the problem. These listeners have their minds made up and don't want to be confused or challenged by contradictory information.

So to keep reality from getting in the way of their preferred view of things, they  keep repeating the mantra, "You can't believe the news media."

As of January 20th, 2017, Orwell's 1949 tale of a society in which facts are distorted and suppressed in a cloud of "newspeak" jumped to #1 on Amazon.com's best-seller list.

The sales jump came after the Trump administration's first-day assertions that his presidential inauguration had a record attendance and his allegation that millions of illegal votes were cast against him in the 2016 election.  Neither statement is true.

In addition to Orwell's classic 1984 book, a novel about the election of an authoritarian president, It Can't Happen Here, jumped from obscurity to number 46 at Amazon.com.

"Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not."
Jeremiah 5:21

In a more modern form of this is: There are none so blind as those who will not see.
